A Review of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge Essay

In all honesty, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge was a bit confusing to read. It was non only confusing, but the stamp outing was a surprise to the reader. In the story, we got to see many different aspects of the life of Peyton Farquhar. This story shows the difference that times were back because compared to now. In todays would, a man would not be hung, let alone executed for tampering with a bridge. I also like the part in the story of the betrayal of the soldier that appeared to be in the confederate army. This showed that Farquhar was gullible and would do anything to get involved in the army, since he was not able to fight in it. At the end of the story, I was very surprised in finding out that Farquhar was really dead and his escape was simply a figment of his imagination. The escape that he had watched in his mind showed how eager Farquhar was to get back to his home and his family.I enjoyed the narrative style the story was indite/told in. I thought that since the st ory was split into three different sections, it was easier to read, and all around understand. The narrator made the beginning of the story suspenseful because the reader wants to bop why Farquhar was going to be executed. This technique wants us to keep reading on to find out the terrible thing that Farquhar did. In the middle of the story, we reveal the reason he was to be executed was because he tampered with the confederate bridge, thinking it was going to help them. The narrator did a good job of explaining what Farquhar was like and gave the readers a good mental picture of the situation he was in on the bridge.There are several possible authorships that could go along with this story. The specific theme that I would choose for this story would be the difference between reality and fantasy. The difference between reality and fantasy go hand-in-hand throughout this story. It is not until the end of the story that we see the difference of them in Farquhars life. When Farquhar describes his escape, we believe that this is really happening. Farquhar describes his escape in a lot of detail and talks about his desire to be back with his family and back at home. The difference between reality and fantasy also is seen with the soldier that pretends to be a Confederate. Farquhar believes that the soldier is a Confederate, thus plans the hurting of the bridge. This ends up being the illusion that leads him to his execution. This illusion of the soldier caused Farquhar to damage the bridge was the reason of his demise.This story did a great job of making you beg yourself, what just happened after reading the last few sentences. The narrators creation of Farquhars escape confused the reader, yet made it more interesting in the great scheme of the story.

The busiest day of the week

A young black male was led to the defense control board from the jury box, and Judge Meeks instructed the prosecutor to begin.He stated that the young man was being arraigned on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell. The intent to sell was implied because of the amount of drugs he feature at the time of his arrest. The judge asked if the defendant had any priors, and was told that he had been arrested twice before on the same charges and convicted once. The defendant had just been released from the county jail three months earlier. At this point, the judge asked for a bail recommendation, and the prosecutor requested that it be set at $50,000.The defense lawyer, an older black woman dressed in source clothes, argued that he could not afford the bail because he didnt have a job. She assured Meeks that he lived at home with his mother and that his mother would realize responsibility to make sure he came to court for his trial. The judge told her that because of his prior conviction, the amount of bail would stand. Judge Meeks asked if there was anything else, and both lawyers stated that they were finished. At this point, the judge turned to the clerk and asked her to set a trial date.She gave a date that was two months away, but the prosecutor said that he was unavailable. The date was finally set three months ahead. Once the case was dismissed, the prosecutor remained at the table and the defense lawyer and her client left the courtroom. It was at this point that I realized they were doing arraignments the inbuilt day in this courtroom. One by one, the defendants would go up with their lawyers (or in some cases, they would meet a public defender) and hear the charges against them and the amount of bail to be set. There was no drama, and ther e were no arguments.It was all very quiet and civilized. As I left the courtroom, I saw jury members going in and out of the jury room. Many of them were on cell phones, complaining about waiting to be released. The courthouse was very crowded that day, and there were many individual courtrooms with people waiting outside. I can understand now why the courts have such a long backlog of cases. There are far too many people seeking a judges attention, and too few employees to handle the masses. My final impression is that a courthouse is probably the best place to work because it seems that there is a job for everyone.

If they are dependent on rising property prices it could be problematic. Furthermore if inflation increases further it may force the RBI to increase come to rates. If interest rates rise substantially it will leave those indebted facing rising interest payments and potentially reducing consumer spending in the future 6. INEQUALITY HAS RISENIt is hoped that economic growth would help brush the Indian poor above the poverty line. However so far economic growth has been passing uneven benefiting the skilled and wealthy disproportionately. Many of Indias rural poor are yet to match any tangible benefit from the Indias economic growth. More than 78 million homes do not have electricity. 33% (268million) of the population live on less than $1 per day.
