Jenny WAGHETZKY Compare and Contrast Abraham Lincoln VS Nathan Bedford Forrest Humanities Mr. Z Mrs. B Columbia Christian School Jenny WAGHETZKY Compare and Contrast Abraham Lincoln VS Nathan Bedford Forrest Humanities Mr. Z Mrs. B Columbia Christian School During the Civil War, there were two remarkable men, Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Both of them had a struggling childhood, growing up poor and received no formal education. Lincoln and Bedford Forrest had chosen a different path, Lincoln is a self-taught lawyer while Bedford Forrest was a lieutenant general in the Civil War and before the war Forrest was a fortune amassed a planter and real estate investor and a slave trader.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He decides to fight rather than to let the Southerner seceded. Lincoln did believe that slavery was morally wrong, but Lincoln personally felt that black did not deserve equal treatment of whites. As Lincoln wanted to bring the south back to Union, and that is why he had begun his plan for this with the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction while Forrest wanted no more than just to fight for the Confederacy as a private, but because Forrest had raised the troops himself, Forrest ends up to become the commanding o fficer, he earned a promotion to lieutenant colonel while Lincoln work very hard to save the Union Even though his feeling toward slavery is not to free them, but Lincoln prefers to do anything he can to save the Union. Lincolnââ¬â¢s effort did not go notice, he is unpopular by the southerners for freeing slaves and unfavored by north because they donââ¬â¢t trust him, most of them believed that he brings more war, at the same point Forrestââ¬â¢s effort is noticeable, and Forrest was soon won promotion to brigadier general, he also gained command of the Confederate cavalry brigade. Nathan Bedford Forrest as the first leader, or a grand wizard of the Klan, Ku Klux Klan founded in 1866. Ku Klux Klan becomes a vehicle for white Southern resistance to the Republican Partyââ¬â¢s Reconstruction-era policies.
